Chennai, February 20, 2020 - The Government of Tanzania has officially commissioned an Indian national, Mr. Krishna Pimple as its Honorary Consul in Chennai, with consular jurisdictions for the State of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Pimple is the Founder Chairman of CISB Group, CISS Ltd, Rasheshwar Infrastructure and Krystal Cinemas and employs over 32,000 personnel in India. The official commissioning took place at a colourful ceremony which was held on 20 February 2021, at Taj Coromandel Hotel in Chennai.
The ceremony, which was graced by the Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, Hon. M.C. Sampath, was attended by prominent personalities and members from the business fraternity in Chennai, Honorary Consuls of various countries in Chennai, as well as family friends.
The Honorary Consulate brings closer, among others, the consular services for Tanzania nationals in the four States and will facilitate trade, businesses, investments, tourism and people to people interactions between India and Tanzania.
Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Luvanda expressed the appreciations of the Government of Tanzania to the Government of India for approving the appointment of Mr. Pimple. He further underscored that Chennai and Dar es Salaam are two major ports for India and Tanzania and that it was hoped that this Honorary Consulate will further enlarge both trade and business mobility of our two countries, as well as people to people interactions.
“Whereas Chennai port, also known as “the Detroit of South Asia” is a gateway to South Asia, Dar es Salaam port is a famous gateway to Tanzania and, to most of the land-linked countries in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa. This similarity calls, therefore, for greater cooperation and partnership between our two great ports through sister port arrangement, going forward”, he said.
His Excellency Luvanda told the participants that it was quite fulfilling to him, personally, that the process of recruitment of Mr. Pimple which he initiated upon his assumption of the post as High Commissioner has been successful. He also expressed his unflinching support to Mr. Pimple in delivering his mandate.
On his part, Mr. Pimple expressed his appreciations to the Governments of Tanzania and India for approving his appointment as Honorary Consul and vowed to live up to their expectations. He also underscored the fact that there are quite a lot of common interests between India and Tanzania and that the honorary consulates entrusted under him will work towards further strengthening, trade, business relationships, tourism, cultural exchanges, as well as people-to-people interactions.
“The current trade between the two countries is focused on mostly gold ore, dried leguminous vegetables (pulses), cashew nuts, spices mainly cloves, ores, metal scraps, timbers imports from Tanzania and India’s export of petroleum products, pharmaceuticals, motor vehicles, two/three-wheelers, wire and cables, electrical machinery equipment etc. There is huge potential to enhance trade between Tanzania and the Southern states”, he said.
