Dar Es Salaam, November 06, 2023-In a landmark move towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Tanzania, a high-level meeting was convened on November 06, 2023, at the PSSSF Building in Dar es Salaam. This pivotal gathering aimed to lay the groundwork for the establishment of an Apollo Hospital in the city, heralding a new era in healthcare excellence for the nation. The meeting was a direct outcome of the proactive efforts by Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, during her state visit to India, where she initiated discussions with the leadership of the Apollo Hospital Group.

The meeting saw the convergence of key figures from both Tanzania and India, including Dr. John A.K. Jingu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, United Republic of Tanzania, Prof. Mary Nagu, Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health, United Republic of Tanzania, Prof. Paschal Ruggajo, Director of Curative, Ministry of Health, United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Kheri Goloka, Minister Counsellor and Medical Attache’ of the Tanzania High Commission, New Delhi and Dr. K. Hari Prasad, President of the Apollo Hospital Group. Their discussions were informed by the vision shared by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Chairman of Apollo Hospitals, aiming to establish a state-of-the-art super-specialty Apollo Hospital in Tanzania, a venture that followed with site visits and strategic meetings with key stakeholders, including the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC).

The deliberations were fruitful, resulting in several key agreements poised to significantly boost the healthcare landscape in Tanzania:
1. Referral Agreement Renewal: The Ministry of Health and Apollo Hospitals agreed to renew their referral agreement for patients, further solidifying their partnership with a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
2. Super-Specialty Hospitals: A landmark MoU was signed to facilitate the collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Apollo Hospitals for the establishment and operation of super-specialty hospitals in Tanzania. The construction of these facilities is anticipated to be completed within the next three years, promising a substantial enhancement in healthcare services.
3. Partnership with PSSSF: In a strategic move, Apollo Hospitals will engage with the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF) to establish these hospitals within premises owned by PSSSF. Notably, Quality Plaza on Nyerere Road and another site, the PSSSF Commercial Complex, near Mlimani City Mall on Sam Nujoma Road have been identified for this purpose.
4. Apollo Telehealth Initiative: In an effort to embrace technology-led healthcare solutions, Apollo Telehealth will work closely with the Ministry of Health to introduce services such as Tele-Emergency, Tele-ICU, and remote healthcare services, further enhancing the accessibility and quality of healthcare.

The three-day meeting concluded on a high note, with all parties committed to realizing the vision laid out in the discussions. The establishment of Apollo Hospitals in Tanzania is not just a testament to the growing Indo-Tanzanian collaboration but also a crucial step towards achieving healthcare excellence in the region.
