On July 18, 2019, Air Tanzania launched its first nonstop flights to Mumbai from Dar es Salaam’s J. K. Nyerere International Airport (JKN).

The first outgoing flight departed at 7:30pm from Dar with a full load of passengers and was welcomed by H. E. Ambassador Baraka Luvanda, High Commissioner of Tanzania in India, and other officials. On board was a special delegation including: Minister of Works, Transport and Communications, Hon. Eng. Isack Kamwelwe, Chairperson of Air Tanzania Company Limited’s Board of Directors, Eng. Emmanuel Korosso, MD and CEO of Air Tanzania, Eng. Ledislaus Matindi, Air Tanzania Crew and many more.

Dar to Mumbai service will be operated thrice a week on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and Mumbai to Dar on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Speaking during the Air Tanzania Inaugural Ceremony at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport [CSMIA], Mumbai, Ambassador Luvanda said,  the trade and investment between Tanzania and India have been on the increase; the number of medical seekers and education seekers from Tanzania has been on the increase; tourists, honeymooners, Bollywood film shooters have frequented Tanzania more often in the recent past. So, the coming back of this carrier will greatly ease the movements of both Tanzanians and Indians visiting each other and will provide a room for prospering together.

“It is also enabling India's access to a market of 160 plus million people of the East African countries as well as to about 450 million people in the SADC region”,  the ambassador said.
