New Delhi, November 22, 2019 -Tanzania participated in the 16th Kimberley Process [KP] Plenary Meeting held from 18th-22nd November 2019 in New Delhi. The Deputy Minister of Minerals, Hon. Stanslaus Nyongo led Tanzania delegation in the meeting.

The total number of 55 participants from 82 countries [Including the 28 member states of the European Union which participated as a single participant represented by the European Union Commission] attended the meeting.

 The meeting discussed, among other things, the latest developments in the implementation of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and wider diamond governance, as well as the ongoing reform agenda of the Kimberley Process.

The Kimberley Process [KP] is a multilateral trade regime established in 2003 with the goal of preventing the flow of conflict diamonds. The core of this regime is the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme [KPCS] under which States implement safeguards on shipments of rough diamonds and certify them as “Conflict free”
