His Excellency Eng. John William Herbert Kijazi, on 12th August 2013, presented his letters of Credence to the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner Kijazi expressed his gratitude to the President of Sri Lanka for accepting /receiving his Credentials as the High Commissioner of Tanzania to Sri Lanka (with Residence in New Delhi). He also assured him of his commitment to ensure that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Tanzania and Sri Lanka are strengthened further during his tenure as the High Commissioner of Tanzania to Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner conveyed to President Rajapaksa the following messages from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania:
(i) His Excellency President Kikwete has very good memories of the recent State Visit to Tanzania (on 27th June 2013) by His Excellency President Rajapaksa, including his participation to the "Smart Partnership Dialogue' meeting held in Dar es Salaam from 28th June to 1st July 2013. President Kikwete assures President Rajapaksa that Tanzania will pro-actively pursue the implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation between the two countries as discussed and agreed during the recent State Visit by President Rajapaksa to Tanzania.
(ii) HE President Kikwete congratulates HE President Rajapaksa and his Government for the successful restoration of Peace and Unification of the People of Sri Lanka after almost 3 decades of civil war. President Kikwete wishes the Government and People of Sri Lanka all the best in the ongoing process of achieving Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Re-development after many years of war.
(iii) HE President Kikwete reiterates Tanzania's position of supporting Sri Lanka as the host of CHOGM-2013 and Tanzania will participate fully in this meeting, including the other associated sideline events.
HE President Rajapaksa expressed his gratitude for the highly inspiring messages of support from President Kikwete and he also expressed his great satisfaction. With the outcome of his recent visit to Tanzania. He assured High Commissioner Kijazi that Sri Lanka looks forward to an enhanced Cooperation with Tanzania in the Diplomatic, Technical and Economic fronts. In order to speed up the cooperation process, HE the President asked the Sri Lanka Govt. Officials and the Tanzania High Commission Officials to have frequent interactions for discussing implementation of the various Cooperation programmes between the two countries.
HE President Rajapaksa also told High Commissioner Kijazi that preparations for the CHOGM-2013 are going on well as planned, and he is looking forward to receiving President Kikwete during the meeting in November 2013. He wished High Commissioner Kijazi all the best during his tenure as the High Commissioner of Tanzania to Sri Lanka.
